Shabby Chic Pinny

Hope your all having a wonderful Sunday….

I have pottered between the shed and the house today, I have been sorting buttons, dismantling jewellery,  reading books and playing with copper wire..

In one of the books I read there was a great little project where you had to make your own coat hanger from wire and also an apron or “pinny” …. inspired by this I set off to make one and here’s my version…

The book that this delightful wee project came from was called Layered, Tattered and Stitched: A Fabric Art Workshop by Ruth Rae, I bought this book in 2011 from Amazon.

I used the following materials to make it :-

  • Sewing Machine
  • Vintage sheet music paper
  • Muslin Fabric
  • Vintage lace ribbon
  • May Arts Ruffle Edge Pink Ribbon & Velvet Ribbon
  • Vintage Pink Buttons
  • Pink Thread
  • Rose Petal Seam Binding from Wild Orchid Crafts
  • Satin Heart
  • White Lace
  • 2 x vintage safety pins (they were out my mums button box ❤ )
  • Copper Wire

This was fun to make and i’m already looking forward to trying something out her book for next weekend

I’m quite proud of my wee corner of blogland, as today we hit 100,0oo visits, I never thought in a million years that I would have so many lovely people popping in for a wee peek .. so to you.. a simple thankyou xx I do appreciate each and every one of you.

I will finish off my post with a wee peek at some vintage jewellery my mother in law gave me a few months ago.. its gorgeous and it came from her old aunty jenny .. its just lovely 🙂

Easter Nest Box

Hi everyone… hope your weekend is going well.

Today I have an Easter Nest Project to share with you that I created for Wild Orchid Crafts  as part of their Youtube Design Team.

My daughter was throwing out an old mug box, and I managed to get it up to my shed before it hit the bucket! … this is what the box looked like before I altered and decorated it

I peeled off the cellophane skin

Gave the whole box a coat of Gesso inside and out

Then I took some Linen Acyrlic paint by Docrafts Artist and painted the whole box with 2 coats

I then picked some patterned paper .. I chose My Minds Eye Lost and Found Collection

and I covered the lid and base

I had bought some Jungle Moss and Reindeer Moss last week and it was just perfect to make a nest for the top of the box

I used Glossy accents to adhere it to the lid of the box

next I took some englaise lace from wild orchid crafts and fixed a band around the lid and base and decorated the top with flowers and pearls and the bottom with buttons

The flowers were scrunched up into little balls to give them a crinkled effect then I stuck 2 together before adhering them onto the lace and topping with a pearl

I then made a label for the front of the box using the “b” side of the patterned paper, some victorian edge scissors, some skeleton leaved, a button and a flower.. oh and some old sticky letters from Karen Foster Designs

Next up was the egg shell for the centre for the moss nest…  I used 3 colours of paint for the egg

I love the colour the egg turned out.. all creamy yellowey and greeney

All that was left to do now was to pop the chicks in and take some more photographs of the finished Easter Nest Box

I had a lot of fun making this project… a full supplies list is listed below.. thanks for popping in 🙂 and enjoy your weekend!

First up, and in keeping with the Use it Up (UIU) Pledge,  I painted and decorated some cloths pegs that I had been lying on my desk for a long time, so with a lick of paint, some patterned paper and a couple of vintage buttons they were transformed from bare wood, so something quite special…

Hobbit Goblet….

I was pottering around playing with copper wire yesterday, I had been inspired to get creating after watching Barb’s Ustream show on Friday night… and this is what I came up with…

I was hoping it would turn out basket-like, but it ended up coming out goblet shaped lol, but I do love it and it now has pride of place on the lamp table in the lounge …

I also used up some fibres, wool and fabric woven inbetween the copper wire…  this is fun to do 😉

It’s squint, lop sided and wobbly, but I love it 🙂

I also made a triangle shaped frame and wove some seed beads through it…. I do love working with wire so will try and get some more practice in and try out making different things in the future 🙂

Thanks for stopping bye…
