Shabby Sunday #8

Happy Sunday everyone and welcome to Shabby Sunday week #8

This week I have altered 2 x pasta sauce jars (that were due to be recycled this weekend) to make a lovely wee shabby chic candle holders, they are now out of the recycling chain and will be used around the house and garden deck area.

I plan to take a picture of them this evening with the candles lit, so that you can see what they are like in the dark 🙂

The jars were cleaned thoroughly in the dishwasher before being used 🙂

In the tealight holder below, I used the tattered florals die by tim holtz and cut out several layers of calico and tuille, stitched them all together and layered with shop a bought burlap flower.

It is really easy to make these jars, I used lace and fabric, but you could use patterned paper, felt, paint, the possibilities are endless, plus you do not need to use real tealights (flame variety) you can buy little tealights with an artificial flame that are battery operated, which will make them super safe 🙂

How are you?

It is a lovely sunny Sunday here today and it is also my son’s birthday… which we will celebrate once he emerges from his bed!

My husband left early this morning to run his mum to the airport, so I headed up the garden for a spot of crafting

I really love to incorporate fabric and lace in my cards.. today’s card does just that..

I cut a small square of batting, layered it with some natural fabric, stitched around the edge with orange thread, added a scrap of vintage lace, a smidge of yellow ribbon and topped it with a little star button.

How are you

Hi everyone…

It’s a bank holiday here in Scotland, and what better way to spend it after the cleaning was done, than a spot of crafting… so up to my wee shed i went!

I’m busy finishing off a fabric journal that I started last year.. I think another couple of days and it’ll be done.

I made some fabric tags for it today, using some of the gorgeous vintage lace that I bought from store Lavish Laces.

Supplies used :-

  • Ranger Tags
  • Stampin Up Box Template kit
  • Fabric
  • Vintage Laces from Etsy Store Lavish Laces
  • Burlap
  • Seam Binding
  • Crafty Secrets Stamp Set
  • Memento Rich Cocoa Ink
  • Heart Punch
  • Wild Orchid Crafts Self Adhesive Pearls
  • Colall Glue from Wild Orchid Crafts

You can get the kit for the boxes from Stampin Up, it comes with Diecut doilies, feathers, etc plus buttons, twine and gift cards.. if you are in UK and fancy one, my Stampin Up Demo Helen Anderson’s link is in my side bar.

Love how the burlap transforms an ordinary tag into something quite different…

Shabby Chic Photograph Book

I headed up to my shed late morning to make something shabby… it feels like an age since I made anything shabby…

I was supposed to be working today, but I worked my butt off for 10 hours straight yesterday, so that I didn’t have to go into work today.

So shabby chic it was and as it turned out, very much a recycling project..

here is what i made:-

Shabby Chic Photo Book 1

it started off  it life looking like this

then I chopped the sides off

and made it into a bookcover..

I added some watered down acrylic paint..

and painted the cover back and front with several coats, until it looked how I wanted it

I took a second & third piece of corrugated cardboard, ran it through an embossing folder, and gave it the same paint treatment, all the edges were inked with pumice stone distress ink..

the picture above is the piece that I added to the outer spine of the photograph book.  I then added some burlap strands and a piece of junk jewels from my local charity shop and it looks like this…

shabby Chic Photograph Book

The inside pages are just a heavy weight textured cardstock that I stitched together, then stitched them into the book, I used Ozegran (Jen’s) binding technique, a link to her blog is on my sidebar.

Shabby Chic Photograph Book 5

I roughed up all the edges of the book pages..

Shabby Chic Photograph Book 2

the front of the book features another one of the wooden hearts that I picked up from Hobbycraft at christmas.

there are also some vintage flowers, a padlock and a heart stick pin.. and I also incorporated some of my own handmade paper that I made last year from pulping down old letters and envelopes

Shabby Chic Photograph Book 3

As I mentioned at the start of my post, I have done a lot of recyling and “using it up” in this project..

  • The cover was from an old cardboard box
  • the spine gem came from the charity shop
  • the cardstock I had for 4 yrs (using it up)
  • the handmade paper on the front I made from old letters and envelopes

you can see the handmade paper just peeking out from behind the wooden heart..

Thanks for popping round.. hope you have had a great weekend!

Halloween Treat Bag & Giveaway

Happy Sunday everyone… hope your all having a lovely weekend and the weather is being kind wherever you may be…

The sun is shining here and the sky is blue .. and my wee shed at the top of the garden is toasty warm with the sun streaming in through the window…

Today I have been concentrating on making my October Design Team Challenge for Wild Orchid Crafts..we were challenged to make a halloween treat bag.

Supplies used:~

  1. Glassine Bag
  2. Black Textured Cardstock
  3. My Minds Eye 12 x 12  Mischievous Patterned paper collection pack
  4. GT-00027 100 Grit German Glass Glitter from Wild Orchid Crafts
  5. GR-00018 1/2″ Black Gingham Ribbon (WOC)
  6. SP-00041 Deep Red Rhinestones (WOC)
  7. Scor Tape and Hot Glue
  8. Black Chipboard Spider from Deb (think its a Tim Holtz Die)

Here is a wee Photo Step by step for you 🙂

Take a glassine bag and line the edges and centre with Scortape

Remove the adhesive backing strips and place the glassine bag face down on the reverse side of the textured cardstock

Trim off the excess, then score the top (open end) to create a closure/flap

Stick down some spooky halloween paterned paper, pick out some ribbon, choose any embelishments, then stick them all down

I already had the spider ready and glossy accented down the glitter glass

then all that’s left to do is fill your treat back and tie a bow in the top to close / seal the bag 🙂
